| Overview |
| Q. |
What are web
calendars?
|
| A. |
Web calendars are calendaring components that allow
website visitors to browse calendars, and to view -- and
in some cases add -- associated events to the calendar(s).
More advanced web calendars will let visitors post
attachments with events, set recurring events, allow
public and private calendar entries, and encrypt
calendar entries.

|
| Q. |
Does
bf.calendars handle recurring calendar entries?
|
| A. |
Yes. bf.calendars not only lets users establish
daily, weekly, or monthly calendar entries, but also
allows them to be edited as a group, or as individual
calendar entries.
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Does
bf.calendars have a web interface to administer the
calendars?
|
| A. |
Yes. However, there is no separate
administrator console for bf.calendars.
Administration of the calendars is performed through the
same interface used to view, add, and edit calendars and
calendar entries. The interface determines the
permission level of the user, and if the user has
administrative privileges on the calendar, links to the
appropriate administrative tools are presented. If
the user is not an administrator, they simply will not
be provided access to the administrative tools.

|
| Q. |
Can
I attach documents to calendar entries -- Like, an
agenda to a meeting event?
|
| A. |
Yes, you can attach any kind of document to a
calendar entry in bf.calendars.

| |
|
| Q. |
Can
anyone see my calendar entries?
|
| A. |
Only if you want them to. If you are the owner
or an administrator of a calendar, you can establish
user-level permissions on your calendar such as: Read
only public entries, Read/Write, Administrator,
etc. Your calendar entries can't even be seen by
someone with direct access to the database as they are
stored in an encrypted state.

| Q. |
With
what databases does bf.calendars work?
|
| A. |
Like all of the components of bf.collaboration,
bf.calendars uses ODBC to connect to its datasource.
In that light, bf.calendars will work with any database
that has an ODBC compliant driver. bf.calendars has been tested against MS Access and MS SQL
Server databases. For the convenience of the
webmaster, bf.calendars ships with both an MS Access
database, and SQL scripts to generate an SQL Server
database if it is preferred.

|
| Q. |
What
are the minimum system requirements to run bf.calendars?
|
| A. |
For a web server to smoothly serve bf.calendars, it must
be running Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS).
It is recommended that the server be at least 600MHz,
have at least 128MB of RAM, and have a recent version of
the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). You
can click here to get MDAC
version 2.70. bf.calendars uses only minimal disk
space (less than 5MB), but will grow as calendars and
calendar entries are added -- Especially if many of them
contain attachments.
